Catherine Chidgey

Catherine Chidgey was born in Auckland.

Her debut novel, In a Fishbone Church, won Best First Book at the New Zealand Book Awards as well as a Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. In 2003 she was named best New Zealand novelist under forty. Her fourth novel, The Wish Child, won the fiction prize at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her sixth, Remote Sympathy, was one of New Zealand’s top 10 bestselling novels of 2021 and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.

She teaches creative writing at the University of Waikato and lives near Hamilton with her husband and daughter.
