A Los Angeles-based production company has acquired film and TV rights to Elinor Lipman’s latest novel, Every Tom, Dick & Harry.
The novel, the US author’s fifteenth, is out from Eye Books in the UK in March. It follows the fortunes of a thirtysomething estate-sale agent in a small New England town who wins the contract to sell the contents of a high-end bordello and in the process unearths many of the town’s secrets.
‘Masterclass’
Every Tom, Dick & Harry was first published in the US in early 2025, when the Washington Post called it ‘all comfort and joy – a masterclass in writing about small-town life’.
It has now been optioned by the US production company Bridge7, led by former Netflix executive Swati Shetty and agent Grant Kessman, where it is currently in development.
Witty
Elinor Lipman is known for her witty social comedies, often set in New England or New York. Her novel Ms. Demeanor was a finalist for the 2023 Thurber Prize for American Humor.
Her debut novel, Then She Found Me, was adapted into a 2007 film of the same name, directed by and starring Helen Hunt, with Bette Midler, Colin Firth and Matthew Broderick. Her fourth novel, The Inn at Lake Devine, was adapted for the stage in 2015.
Eye Books has previously published UK editions of Lipman’s novels Good Riddance, On Turpentine Lane and Rachel to the Rescue, as well as Ms. Demeanor.
