
Born in London and brought up in Kent, Laurence Rose is a writer, conservationist and composer.
He has worked for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds since 1983 in a variety of roles, from managing nature reserves to advocating global treaties. He spent ten years as the charity’s Director for Northern England and now works as a volunteer, having formally retired in 2022.
As a writer, his main interest is the cultural aspects of nature and conservation. His books include: The Long Spring, an account of a series of journeys tracking the arrival of spring from North Africa to Arctic Norway; Framing Nature, a collection of literary essays and portraits of species of conservational and cultural interest; and Leopard Moon Rising, based on his investigations into the co-existence of humans and wildlife in India.
He has lived in West Yorkshire since 1999.
